Incentives
How to increase response rates for surveys/interviews/focus groups?
· Discussed possible incentives for next round of OPAC usability
testing, including success and failures of previous incentives.
· Discussed how to increase relevancy of survey for participants.
Have selectors send out introductory email, include as part of orientation
for graduate students.
· Group will review incentives literature and
· Survey student workers to find out what type of incentives
would encourage participation
Conference Report (Holly)
Holly reported on the "Living the Future" conference, which
focused on organizational development. Holly explained the concept of
the Balance Scorecard: defining metrics around strategic goals (user,
financial, internal and future goals). Primarily human resource related.
It is a system for measuring the institution's strategic goals.
Reader Survey
Holly distributed the draft of Highlights of YUL Reader Survey 2001-02.
The group will discuss it at the next meeting. Holly will send out a
copy of the survey questionnaire before the next meeting.
Conference Report (Pamela)
Pamela reported on the "Statistics and Measurements in Library
Services" conference, which focused on assessing library services.
Presentations included;
· LibQUAL+ History of the survey, discussion of the key measures
and a review of the questionnaire. Also included a presentation by one
of the LibQUAL+ institutions demonstrating how the survey was administered
and how they used the data.
· Accountability vs. Count-Ability. Discussed Problems with current
patterns of data collection. Carnegie Mellon's attempt to organize data
collection (only collect what is needed and used) and the search for
MIS system.
· Demonstration on data collection and reporting tools used by
Wesleyan U. All of it done via the web.
· Why a web survey? Pros and cons of web surveys. Brief review
of assessment software.
