Document Delivery Coordinating Committee Charge
The purpose of the Document Delivery Coordinating Committee
is to implement and continuously improve the quality of library services
to provide delivery of known items not easily available to campus
readers and to provide low-cost access to YUL collections through
other libraries for researchers elsewhere.
The benefits of the Committee's activities will accrue
to the Yale community in terms of responsive service in meeting readers'
needs to obtain copies of cited documents. To achieve these ends,
the Committee will foster communication among all ILL units to promote
adherence to standard policies, incorporation of best practices, and
understanding of reader expectations. In addition, the members will
review current procedures and recommend changes in order to enhance
efficiency and productivity. Members will keep abreast of current
trends in services and new technologies pertinent to document delivery.
To facilitate the transition to a model of seamless document delivery,
the Committee also will review and recommend means of integrating
services such as paging, intra-campus delivery of books and copies,
and consortial borrowing with the traditional activities of interlibrary
loan services.
Membership of the Committee will consist of the manager
or supervisor of each ILL unit [Divinity, Music, Sciences, SML, SSL,
Medical, and Law] and, as resource people, the Manager of the Shipping
Department, a supervisor from Access Services, and a staff member
from the SML Document Delivery Department. The Head of Document Delivery
will serve on the Committee and will sponsor it through representation
on SQI Council and the LMC. The position of Chair will be selected
annually from among the membership, with the term of appointment to
run concurrently with the SQI Council calendar, and also will serve
as alternate to the Council.
