Bibliographic Access Group Charge
2001-2002
The Bibliographic Access Group is the responsible authority
for the display in the online catalog (and integrated management system)
of public information about the library's collections, including their
bibliographic description, location, and accessibility. The charge
of the Bibliographic Access Group is to develop policies and oversee
implementation of procedures that will improve reader identification
and access to the Library's collections as presented through the library's
automated system. During the coming year to eighteen months, the group
specifically will: -
Establish principles governing the library's online catalog
(ORBIS OPAC) display/interface (including policies on location names,
indexing decisions, messages).
- Design guidelines for library bibliographic database maintenance
planning and to insure effective coordinated implementation of related
policies and procedures library-wide (e.g. major transfers or special
cataloging).
- Assess the usability of the online catalog and recommend
improvements to appropriate groups for its use as a tool.
