Bibliographic Access Group Charge
2001-2002

The Bibliographic Access Group is the responsible authority for the display in the online catalog (and integrated management system) of public information about the library's collections, including their bibliographic description, location, and accessibility. The charge of the Bibliographic Access Group is to develop policies and oversee implementation of procedures that will improve reader identification and access to the Library's collections as presented through the library's automated system. During the coming year to eighteen months, the group specifically will:

  • Establish principles governing the library's online catalog (ORBIS OPAC) display/interface (including policies on location names, indexing decisions, messages).
  • Design guidelines for library bibliographic database maintenance planning and to insure effective coordinated implementation of related policies and procedures library-wide (e.g. major transfers or special cataloging).
  • Assess the usability of the online catalog and recommend improvements to appropriate groups for its use as a tool.
