Public Printing Task Force Charge
Purpose:
The Public Printing Task Force was organized in January 2000 to
investigate and recommend the library's services for printing from public
workstations.
Charge:
The document "Policies Governing the Use of and Access to Yale University
Library Research Workstations," adopted by the Library Management Council,
October 27, 1999, states:
Printing. Readers can print, at no charge, brief citation information
from task printers maintained by the Library. The Library provides networked
high-quality laser printing services in select libraries on a cost recovery
basis.
The Public Printing Task Force is charged with:
-
proposing a service program to provide public computer printing for readers
in light of this policy, to include identification of WHO can expect to use
such services, at what LOCATIONS, and under what conditions [e.g. pricing,
payment options, etc.];
-
reviewing options [e.g. services provided by RIS, Copico, perhaps other vendors]
to contract networked laser printing services;
-
recommending a cost recovery plan by which all expenses for providing a library
wide service will be covered [i.e. shared load across sites]; this is intended
to be a non-profit service for the library. [The Task Force should consider
this charge within the context of the Yale University Library at large, that
is, the program may be subsidized across libraries including SML, CCL and
the school and departmental libraries.] and
-
suggesting how service objectives will be monitored for assessment of the
program.
Task Force recommendations to be made to the Service Quality Improvement
Council not later than April 3, 2000.
