SML Room 411

All present: Katie Bauer, Pamela Mann, Tony Oddo, Jennifer Weintraub, Abe Parrish, Holly Grossetta Nardini (chair)

Notes from meeting:
1. Review of SQI Assessment Group Report to SQI-C
· Holly reported at the September 18 meeting of the Council and stated that we will address several key actions in the coming year, including the assisting with the implementation of the Fall reader survey, building a toolkit of simple resources for gathering comparable data, and develop a clearinghouse for ideas on assessment. Feedback from the Council included:
· Interest in Assessment Group offering training sessions and/or forums about assessment. Deferred for future years since this is a learning year for group.
· Questions about how the group intends to learn
Read articles, tap experts on campus, and learn through doing by partnering with SQI Reference and Instruction Groups to complete two assessments this academic year.
· Interest in increasing the "culture of assessment" at Yale University Library
Taken as a Council activity
· Questions about how to get items on our agenda
Offer to include link on Web site, suggestion to contact any group member
2. Define goals and milestones
· Establish framework for assessment/definitions of methodologies-October
· Select key methodologies to concentrate on this year-October
· Develop toolkit--October, November
· Assist with analysis of reader survey-November, December
· Complete two assessment projects-one designed by December and completed by February; another defined by March and completed by May
3. Bibliography
· Tony agreed to do a literature search and select one or two key articles that will inform our decision about which methodologies to pursue this year.
4. New business
· We agreed that we are also interested in learning about "bad" assessments and that we could build case studies of work done in the library that needs improvement.

Action Items:
Holly: Record & post brief minutes, add "contact us" link to Web site, develop one case study/example for "toolkit"-probably on focus group used for Delivery Improvement Group
Abe: shorten example of reference/instruction assessment and mark-up for posting
Katie: work on short example of usability study for toolkit
Tony: Find articles/chapters that explain research methodologies so we can select two for this year.
