SQIC Assessment Group Notes and Action Items
Wednesday, March 6, 2002
11:00 - 12:00
SML Room 411

Present: Tony Oddo (recording), Pamela Mann, Jennifer Weintraub, Holly Grossetta Nardini (chair), Katie Bauer, Abe Parrish

Minutes:

1. Reference Assessment. The group discussed the joint project with the Reference Group and determined that some clarification was needed. To proceed, we need to know what they want to collect and just exactly how to collect data, etc. It was decided that Pamela and Tony would meet with the Reference Group. They will attend the next Reference Group meeting and report back to our group.

2. OPAC usability testing. Jennifer reported to the group on various problems and concerns associated with the new OPAC displays. We will help the OPAC implementation group by doing a usability test. In particular, we will examine "names on buttons" and "labels of indexes." The purpose of the usability testing is to see if users really understand what these terms mean, and to help suggest alternatives. Holly will poll the select-l list for faculty, graduate students and undergraduates to test the new Orbis interface. Katie will assist Jennifer in compiling the data.

3. Assessment Toolkit. Some corrections were made to the draft material in the Assessment Toolkit.

4. Announcements. Jennifer announced that there has been a push to promote the use of digital imaging for class work. She herself works on the issue of copyright. Holly reported that she attends the SQI Council Meetings and reports on the activities of this group.
