Bibliographic Access Group meeting minutes
9/18/2001

Present: Nicole Bouche, Steven Arakawa, Sue Crockford-Peters, Tobin Nellhaus, Kalee Sprague, Paul Stuehrenberg, Joan Swanekamp, Rich Richie (recording)

Absent: Jim Shetler

1. Minutes from the previous meeting were approved.

2. Nicole Bouche, reported on her meetings with Ellen Cordes, Head of the OPAC Implementation Group and described how Ellen would like the BAG group's assistance to help define and assess core functionalities for the new OPAC. The BAG group agreed to work together with the Implementation Group by reviewing the new OPAC's pages, and reviewing them for their effectiveness and accuracy for public display. By November 1, 2001 the preliminary test load of OPAC pages will take place. In February 2002, a second test of these OPAC pages will take place, and in April 2002, the final load of pages will take place. Between June and August 2002, the new system will go live.

3. Joan Swanekamp reported on the |k issue and where things stand. Joan noted that she was currently working with the Medical Library and that the situation will be resolved soon.

4. Nicole Bouche offered to draft a document for the next meeting on how stamps are to function in the new Endeavor system.

5. Nicole Bouche, chair of the committee distributed readings to each member of the group for discussion. The ideas and philosophy of Service Quality Assessment will be incorporated into future recommendations to be made by the Bibliographic Access Group. Readings included:

Berry, Leonard L. On Great Service: A Framework for Action.
Hernon, Peter and John R Whitman. Delivering Satisfaction and Service Quality: A Customer-Based Approach for Libraries.
Service Quality in Academic Libraries.

6. Catalog Management for Lost Material -- reviewing past practices and in preparation for the new OPAC capabilities in Voyager, the BAG group generally agreed, pending discussion with various departments including RSC, that the OPAC should include records for titles withdrawn because the last copy in the library was unreturned or missing. The group agreed that wording for the OPAC be developed to accurately show the title is no longer available and instruct readers as to what to do.

Respectfully submitted,
Rich Richie
