Document Delivery Coordinating Committee
Meeting October 6, 2004
Minutes
Present: Barbara Amato, Susan Burdick (recorder), Martha Clark (chair),
Carol Jones, Dana Peterman
Absent: Mary Angelotti
The RLG annual agreement was passed out. Some of the changes that were
discussed were the increases in lending fees for example the fee for
copies went from $7 to $10 and for returnables between continents the
fee went from $21 to $30.
Discussion ensued about how recently the numbers of RLG Shares members
have decreased and that not all the Ivy League schools are participants.
Reasons vary from cost of being an RLG member to not having the right
technology. There is no longer an additional charge for being a Shares
member. A question was asked about turnaround time: if there was any
difference between OCLC and RLG libraries. This has not been tracked
in recent history.
Carol mentioned that in the LMC meeting that morning she also passed
out this document and discussion about the cost of being an RLG member.
There a suggestion was made that the Library budget committee might
take a look at this. Carol said the Joan Swanekamp highlighted the fact
that for cataloging OCLC does not provide all the capabilities that
RLG does, i.e. non-roman characters.
In the RLG annual agreement the section On-site was updated. Clear
language about collections access now exists. Questions arose on what
happens when some of the libraries at a university are shares members
while others at the same university are not.
The Shares meeting at NYPL on Nov. 12 is coming up and a few people
from Yale will be going.
ILLiad borrowing procedures were discussed. Some of the issues were
ILLiad email notification, Ariel and patron notification, and manually
changing statuses. Print documents are still not available.
Next meeting is October 20, 2004.
