POLICY ON THE USE OF SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS

The Yale University Library is committed to maintaining the confidentiality of reader's records. This commitment extends to a reader's Social Security Number, which is used by the University and hence by the Library as the reader's ID number. As technology improves and changes, the Library will pro-actively seek ways to reduce and ultimately eliminate the use of the Social Security Number in the routine conduct of library business. In the interim, the Library suppresses its display or its appearance on printed documents whenever possible.
