ANNOUNCEMENTS

1. Update on Chair's attempt to consider new time/date for meetings.
The proposed times were not viable. We will try another set of times.

2. Ask!live proposal update
LMT reviewed and in principle approved the continuation of the service as outlined in the proposal but asked some questions which will be discussed at the March 30th LMC meeting. The key concerns are (1) how to identify the appropriate participants, and (2) the work from home possibilities.

NEW BUSINESS

1. Collaborative Grant opportunity coordination efforts (Rich Szary)
Rich outlined the grant criteria. The intention is to improve knowledge of special collections and resources across the university (i.e. libraries, museums, and other units) to increase the visibility and seamless access to them. There are three focus areas: (1) linking of access systems, (2) mainstreaming of reference service for special collections material through programmatic outreach and training, and (3) develop formal resource sharing processes and infrastructures (e.g. digitization, rights management, shared repository). The three year initiative will include re-grants to collaborative projects selected by the Steering Committee from submitted proposals. An incentive fund of $200,000 will be available for such projects; projects will require a 1:1 match with Yale resources.

Areas for action:

1. The Reference Group might wish to submit a proposal relating to training or preparing librarians to improve referral services to campus resources as part of reference services throughout the libraries. Might there be opportunities for grant funds for this purpose?

2. SQIC members suggested that Rich might notify SQIC of grant proposals for the Council to help identify upstream or downstream impact of the projects at least within the library.

3. Fred outlined four potential ILTS exploration areas:
1000-image pilot testbed with the museums, integrated with other image sites;
an OAI compliant platform;
a rescue repository; and
a marked-up text repository.

More information about this Collaborative Grant is available from the project's URL http://mssa.library.yale.edu/melloncollab/

2. Davis Educational Foundation Grant update (Danuta Nitecki)

This is a three year extension of the prior ELI collaborative teaching support program. The focus of this grant is on using collections to enhance Undergraduate education, with special emphasis on offering faculty team support through bringing together campus expertise in technologies, pedagogy and collections. The first target audiences may be in the areas of history and English, but a call for five proposals from faculty will soon be released with a deadline of April 4th. A Steering Committee of faculty and administrators will review the proposals and select up to 5 for support in each semester of the next academic year. For more information, see:
http://www.library.yale.edu/eli/davisapplication.html

The SQIC members asked if there will be a web page for Lessons Learned and Contacts for similar tasks? Danuta noted that Karen Reardon is beginning to create just such a site as a continuation of the ELI program.

3. Public Services Management Council update (Danuta Nitecki)

The charge was distributed and reviewed by LMT. The intention is to coordinate and provide authority for formal discussion and management of public services across library units. The major intentions are (1) to provide communication across the entire library, (2) to understand, share and manage resources across the library, and (3) to understand and design services based upon user needs and behaviors.
The charge will now be presented to LMC, with a question of possible C&T inclusion. The committee ran out of time, so a group opinion on this issue will be discussed and forwarded to Danuta. Those who helped draft the charge suggested that an early consideration of a PSMC would be to consider its relationship with SQIC as well as other library Councils as well as the reporting lines for all existing SQIC subcommittees.
