Scope

Use for works which treat Mormons as a religious and social group.

• Works that describe the relationship between the Mormons and the Territory of Utah or the federal government class with Utah (Zc58)

Classification

Zc60 -- Serials

• Serials of special branches and sects class with the sect in Zc67
• The first line is the class number
• The second line is a cutter based on the main entry. Official serials of an administrative nature use the A table.

• Use for general works, history, description of Mormon life, and official monographs that are not doctrinal
• Use for works on Mormons in the United States as a whole and in Utah
• The first line is the class number
• The second line is the three-digit date of the first edition followed by the first two letters of the main entry. For books first published after 1999, use all four digits of the date, followed by the first two letters of the main entry.

Example

Hunt, James H. Mormonism: embracing the origin, rise and progress of the sect, 1844.

• Use for descriptions, histories and other general works about Mormons in a specific locality (other than Utah)
• Class works on Mormon missions at Zc66
• The first line is the class number
• The second line is a standard Yale number for states or countries
• The third line is a three-digit date of the first edition followed by the first two letters of the main entry. For books first published after 1999, use all four digits of the date, followed by the first two letters of the main entry.

Zc615 -- Biography

• Use for biographies of Mormons including members of sects
• The first line is the class number
• Collective biographies. The second line is the three-digit date of the first edition followed by the first two letters of the main entry.
• Individual biographies. The second line is a Cutter number based on the last name of the subject of the biography. The third line is the three digit date of the first edition followed by the first two letters of the main entry.
• For books first published after 1999, use all four digits of the date for the last line, followed by the first two letters of the main entry.

Zc62 -- Sacred books.

• Use for copies of the sacred books of Mormonism including Mormon editions of the Bible
• All sacred works of Mormonism are classed here regardless of issuing body
• Arrange by title of work, with modifications to take care of editions, translations, criticism, etc.
• The second line is a cutter for the specific sacred book followed by letter for translations, paraphrases, indexes, or criticism
• For critical works of other sacred books add "y" to the cutter, followed by a third line of a three-digit date of the first edition followed by the first two letters of the main entry. For books first published after 1999, use all four digits of the date, followed by the first two letters of the main entry.

Zc625 -- Hymns

• Use for Mormon hymns
• The first line is the class number
• The second line is the three-digit date of the first edition followed by the first two letters of the main entry. For books first published after 1999, use all four digits of the date, followed by the first two letters of the main entry.

• Use for works that support Mormons and their doctrines
• Class works that support the Book of Mormon at Zc62 B5y
• Class in Zc67 works that support a particular Mormon sect
• The first line is the class number
• The second line is the three-digit date of the first edition followed by the first two letters of the main entry. For books first published after 1999, use all four digits of the date, followed by the first two letters of the main entry.

• Use for works that criticize Mormons and their doctrines
• Class works that criticize the Book of Mormon at Zc62 B5y
• Class in Zc67 works that criticize a particular Mormon sect
• The first line is the class number
• The second line is the three-digit date of the first edition followed by the first two letters of the main entry. For books first published after 1999, use all four digits of the date, followed by the first two letters of the main entry.

• Use for works that discuss Mormon views on polygamy, women, and marriage (both for and against)
• The first line is the class number

• Use for general works that describe Mormon missions and their administration
• Class doctrinal works including sermons in Zc63-Zc64
• The first line is the class number
• The second line is the three-digit date of the first edition followed by the first two letters of the main entry. For books first published after 1999, use all four digits of the date, followed by the first two letters of the main entry.

Zc66 -- Missions by locality

• Use for works that describe Mormon missions and their administration in a specific locality
• The first line is the class number
• The second line uses a standard Yale number for countries
• The third line is a three digit date followed by the first two letters of the main entry. For books first published after 1999, use all four digits of the date, followed by the first two letters of the main entry.

Zc67 -- Special branches and sects

• Use for works, including doctrinal, by or about sects of the Mormon Church
• Class biographies with Zc615. Make a subject tracing for sect where desirable.
• Class sacred works or criticism of sacred works with Zc62
• The second line is a cutter for the sect. Add additional cutters as needed.
• The third line is a three digit date followed by the first two letters of the main entry. For books first published after 1999, use all four digits, followed by the first two letters of the main entry.
• For serials the third line is a cutter based on the main entry. Official serials of an administrative nature use A.
• Add additional cutters as needed
