Signatory Authority and Deposition of Licenses

This policy codifies practices that have been in effect in the library system for the last several years. The intent is that if any library money has gone to paying for an electronic resource (or its print equivalent whereby we are receiving the electronic version), the license must be signed by the appropriate person, and a copy housed in a coherent location.

If library resources are used (in whole or in part) to finance access to an electronic resource, the appropriate library officer shall have sole power to commit the library to the terms of the license. This shall apply to all licenses, whether they require a signature, have "click-through" acceptance of terms, or are merely licenses of manifest assent.

If library resources are used (in whole or in part) to finance access to an electronic resource, a copy of the license agreement shall be provided for filing in the office of the appropriate library officer. This shall apply to all licenses, whether they require a signature, have "click-through" acceptance of terms, or are merely licenses of manifest assent. Whenever possible, copies of licenses for products acquired by other University units that the Library expects and desires to support should be secured for filing in the office of the appropriate library officer as well.
