The Collection Development Council is charged with identifying,
considering, analyzing, and reporting issues pertinent to the growth
and management of the Yale Library collections. Working under the direction
of the Associate University Librarian, it may advise her and through
her the University Librarian on matters of policy concerning collection
development and related issues such as preservation and
retrospective
conversion.
As the need arises, the Collection Development Council
may prepare reports and white papers for consumption by the University
Librarian, various faculty advisory committees, the Provost and/or the
President. It may also appoint task forces and specialized
working groups
including, as the need arises, persons who are not selectors at Yale.
The Collection Development Council is a representative
body. Each member is expected to communicate appropriately the deliberations
and conclusions of the Council and to solicit advice and comment from
other selectors. The Council may also prepare the agenda for
periodic
gatherings of all selectors at Yale.
Librarians who are selectors in Yale libraries not reporting
to the University Librarian may be asked to participate in and
contribute
to the Council's work.
Council minutes will be made publicly
available.
