CDC Digital Collections TF

At this meeting we discussed what we’ve learn and what are plans should be for the rest of the time for the group.

We decided on further projects and groups to invite to our meetings. They include:

• Medical Library
• Danuta for the ELI project
• Walpole
• Shoah Project
• Virtual Concert Hall?

We also discussed Visual Resources Collection. They do not really have a selection policy, as it is entirely based on faculty needs.

The rest of the meeting involved brainstorming and discussion of what our products should be. We decided to work on the document concerning best practices for selection for digitization as well as the flow chart for creating digital collections at the library. The flowchart will include people, tools, and practices, when they are ready. These documents will be posted on the web amid other information we will collect.

The other information can pertain to

• Copyright (from the ELI Copyright Committee)
• Assessment (perhaps Danuta has some information) of digital collections
• Imagefinder page on resources at Yale for staff and faculty and students
• Meg’s project description page which may be in progress
• Links and information to library digital collection information.

We also spent some time discussing what we want to aim for in this work

• A culture and environment of experimentation
• Raise level of experience and knowledge
• Enhance what we have
• Exploit what we have done
• Centralize where appropriate, or at least act cooperatively.

We also discussed the staff overwork problem as hindering development of digital collections.

Next meeting: when we have a guest. Jen will begin work on documents, Sandy on some links.
