Media Task Force

Videorecordings and CD-ROMs are a growing part of YUL's collections. Policies developed at a time when the Library had few of these materials may no longer fit current needs. CDC has established a Media Task Force to review current practices and policies systemwide, investigate how these materials are handled at other libraries, and establish new policies and arrangements where needed. Issues for discussion may include but are not limited to:

  • circulating CD-ROMs and videos
  • closed vs open shelving
  • keeping media that accompany books (or vice versa) together
  • classification vs accession numbers
  • preservation and security provisions
  • unification vs localization of policies and practices
  • projected growth, and consequent space and equipment needs
  • costs to implement recommendations
  • implementation sequence
