Special Collections Subcommittee meeting
July 13, 2004
Present: Toby Appel, Susan Brady, Richard Boursy, Martha
Smalley, Libby Van Cleve, David Walls
Susan Brady was welcomed as a new member of our subcommittee, replacing Jae Rossman as Arts Library representative.
Our meeting focused on plans for raising the profile of Special Collections at Yale. We agreed to pursue the following initiatives during the coming year:
Special collections table at Graduate Student Fair in August
[Susan agreed to make arrangements
for a Special Collections table at the Fair on August 26, 2 – 4 p.m.;
electricity will be available for showing video]
More engagement with senior essay process, with focus on History department.

Creation of a handout/brochure aimed at undergraduates - with focus on specific examples of primary source collections
[All subcommittee members should be
thinking of interesting examples of primary sources in their repositories for
inclusion in this handout]
More dynamic special collections web site.
[We discussed some simple changes to the current web site, which Martha will make and send URL for comment]
Special Collections Fair in the fall of 2005
Next meeting will be August 10, 2004, 11:00 a.m. in SML 411.
