Special Collections Subcommittee meeting
August10, 2004
Present: Susan Brady, Richard Boursy, Tom Hyry, Ulla Kasten,
Martha Smalley, David Walls
1) Special collections table at Graduate Student Fair,
August 26, 2-4 pm
- Susan
B. has made arrangements for a table with electricity available.
- Nancy
Lyon and Bill Massa will help staff the table.
- Susan
will contact Libby VanCleve re. use of a video player. Tom will ask if Fortunoff video might
be played as well.
- If
people have handouts that they want to have available at the table, these
handouts can be deposited in a place to be arranged by Tom in MSS&A
reference area.
2) Redesign of Special Collections at Yale web site
- Martha
will ask if Library Communications dept has a digital photo of MSS&A
reading room for inclusion in the web site. If they don’t, Tom will arrange to get a photo made.
- Yale Art Gallery will be added to list
of repositories.
- Information
for the “What’s New” page should be sent to Martha by August 23.
3) History Senior Essays handouts
- We
agreed to prepare customized handouts for the following colloquium topics:
- US:
Colonial and Early Republic (to 1820)
- US:
19th Century (1820-1914)
- US:
20th Century
- US:
African American and Ethnic American
- Europe:
Great Britain
- Europe:
Modern Europe (19th and 20th century)
- Topical:
History of Science & Medicine
- Topical:
Women and Gender
- Committee
members should send Martha brief descriptions of collections that would be
relevant to these areas by September 15th.
- Martha
will redesign and add links to senior essay handout as discussed in the
meeting
