Special Collections Subcommittee meeting

Present: Toby Appel, Richard Boursy, Tom Hyry, George Miles, Jae Rossman,
Martha Smalley, Libby Van Cleve, Sue Walker, David Walls, Richard Warren
Announcements:
Sue Walker: Preservation Committee for which she is our
representative met for the first time. Walpole Library will be offering
regular tours on Thursdays at 3:30 pm. Reservations need to be made by
the Tuesday before the tour.
Tom Hyry: The SAMA video preservation robot will be visiting the Fortunoff
Video Archives for a period of time. MSS&A will soon unveil its new
"research portal" that will provide access to finding aids and
digital resources. [We had an extended discussion re. the future of the
cooperative Finding Aid Database at Yale.]
George Miles: Beinecke is gearing up for the St. Petersburg conference October
23-25. Pamphlets are being transferred from Mudd to Beinecke for
bibliographical work and storage. The Beinecke plaza will be renovated over the
coming months; location of entrance to the library may change from time to
time.
Toby Appel: Medical Historical Library will have Marie Curie exhibit in
conjunction with Women in Science event. Medical Historical is beginning
some digital projects, incl. engravings from Peter Parker collection.
Richard Warren: Historical Sound Recordings is working on preservation and
cataloging collections; hope to get grant. HSR is beginning to put sound
resources on its site, using the Virtual Concert Hall technology of the
Department of Music.
Libby Van Cleve: OHAM has some notable new accessions. Their major
support grant was renewed. They are beginning to send materials to LSF.
Jae Rossman: Is on new Digital Task Force chaired by Jennifer Weintraub
Special Collections Fair: New date is Tuesday, March 30th. George
will reserve the Beinecke mezzanine from 10:30 to 4:30. [Martha ask Ann
Okerson if she will be around and the answer is yes.]
