Re: CDC subcommittee on special collections

At the request of the Collection Development Council, I am putting together and chairing a subcommittee of representatives of special collections in the library. I am defining special collections as unique or rare non-book materials, including manuscripts, archives, and audio-visuals. The subcommittee will meet three times a year (or more if subcommittee members desire). We will discuss collection development issues, particularly those we have in common, and how they can best be addressed. We will keep Ann Okerson informed of our discussions and will propose and/or provide advice to her on relevant policies and procedures. All of you represent holdings with unique or rare non-book materials. If you are adding to your collection (either proactively or reactively), the subcommittee would benefit from the membership of you or a designated representative. I will  call our first meeting early in the fall; please let me know at this time whether your collection will be represented and by whom. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at 2-1740.

next meeting October 14, 1996
