One of the most widely copied of Ortelius' maps, noted for its prediction of the west coast of America. Tartary was the land of Ghengis Khan, and several notes on the map are from the writings of Marco Polo. Japan here is equi-distant from Asia and America, whcich are separated only by the narrow strait of Anian.
