This is a rather mysterious map, and its origin is still being researched. Despite the caption of "Corcke in Engelland," it is a map of the city of Cork in Ireland. The significance of the picture of the stag and the verses at the bottom is not yet clear.

This map, and the four following, were originally intended to be illustrations
for the book The Beauties of England and Wales, by John Britton
and E.W. Brayley. This 18-volume work was published between 1801 and 1815
by the London firm of Vernor, Hood, and Sharpe. Yale holds several copies
of this work, in the British Art Center as well as Sterling
Memorial Library.
