Cross Collection

The Cross Collection consists of some 350 fifteenth through nineteenth century maps donated to Yale in 1969 by the family of W. Redmond Cross. The collection is not yet catalogued, but the maps are arranged by the Yale classification system. A complete list of the collection is available from the curator.
A selection of the maps from the Cross Collection can be seen here

Franklin Collection
Benjamin Franklin CollectionThe Franklin Collection is a group of 144 maps of North America. Most of the maps are from the eighteenth century and selected for their relevance to the study of Benjamin Franklin's life and times. The collection is completely catalogued, and individual maps are identified in the card catalogue by "Franklin" on the first line of the call number.

Seaver Collection

The Seaver Collection consists mostly of road maps from the early 20th century. The core of the collection, more than 6,000 maps, was donated to Yale in 1979 and since then has grown to nearly 8,000 maps through purchase, additional gifts, and exchange of duplicates. The maps are not catalogued but are organized by area and date. Click here for an example.

Stevenson Collection
In the early years of this century, Edward Luther Stevenson travelled to various European libraries to study and photograph rare maps from the fifteenth to nineteenth centuries. The collection, given to Yale in 1945 by Stevenson's son, includes more than 1,000 glass negatives. Lists of the contents of these slides are available from the curator.
