This Italian cast bronze bust was copied from the original in marble by Joseph Wilton that is dated 1755 at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Antonio Cocchi (1695-1758), was a Florentine physician who was responsible for saving Walpole's life at Reggio in 1741 when he was stricken with the quinsy, a type of tonsillitis.
