Artist: Henry William Bunbury (1750-1811)
Title: Englishman at Paris. 1767, 1782
Description: Hand-colored etching

Prior to his matriculation at Cambridge, Bunbury's trip to France in 1767 resulted in this Paris street scene. He has recorded a range of disapproving expressions, from the smirk of a fat monk to the grimace of the hairdresser racing under his parasol. The object of their derision is an ordinary English tourist who strides along, oblivious to the attention he has caused.
