| Artist: | Jean Etienne Liotard (1702-1789) |
| Title: | Self-portrait |
| Description: | Watercolor on ivory |
Walpole described the portrait as "A small head of Liotard the Painter in water colours by himself, done after he had married and cut off his beard." Some years earlier, he had written to Horace Mann, "His [Liotard's] crayons and his water-colours are fine; his enamel, hard: in general, he is too dutch, and admires nothing but excess of finishing."
