The Tribune
Artist: Edward Edwards (1738-1806)
Title: The Tribune, 1774
Description: Watercolor

According to Walpole's description of the Tribune, "It is a square with a semicircular recess in the middle of each side, painted stone-color with gilt ornaments, and with windows and niches, the latter taken from those on the sides of the north door of the great church at Saint Alban's; the roof, which is taken from the chapter-house at York, is terminated by the star of yellow glass that throws a golden gloom all over the room, and with the painted windows gives it the solemn air of a rich chapel." In the middle is the rosewood cabinet containing Walpole's collection of miniatures and enamels by Hilliard, Oliver, Petitot, and Zincke.
