View of the Thames from the Terrace of Somerset House
Artist: Antonio Joli (ca. 1700-1777) after Giovanni Antonio Canal ACanaletto@ (1697-1768)
Title: View of the Thames from the Terrace of Somerset House, ca. 1746
Description: Oil on canvas

Soon after he arrived in England from Italy, Joli devoted himself to views like this one of the Thames, a close copy of Canaletto's painting, now at Windsor Castle. On the left is St. Paul's Cathedral amidst a skyline of Wren churches, and in the far distance can be seen the Monument and Old London Bridge.
