Artist: After Samuel Hieronymous Grimm (1734-1806)
Title: Yorick at Dover, Going to Embark for Calais, 1775
Description: Etching and engraving

Yorick and his fat wife wait their turn at the gangplank of the Dover packet bound for Calais. Here, Yorick is likened to the quintessential Englishman "John Bull" who is often caricatured as a fat man eating his roast beef. "Yorick" was also the pseudonym adopted by Laurence Sterne in his Sentimental Journey through France and Italy, whose hero finds pleasure in all his adventures on the Continent.
