| Artist: | Horace Walpole (1717-1797) |
| Title: | Rules for Admission to Strawberry Hill |
| Description: | Strawberry Hill Press, 1774 |
The house became so popular that Walpole was obliged to have tickets printed for admission and rules to govern the visitors while they were there. Strangers were taken round the house by his housekeeper, while more important guests would tour it with Walpole himself. He would hobble ahead pointing out objects of particular interest and even placing an ivory or cameo in a visitor's hand while telling a story about it or explaining its special significance.
