Librarian Rank Requirements

Appointment to the Librarian 1 rank requires a Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school. Appointment to the Librarian 2 rank requires at least two years of professional experience. Appointment to the Librarian 3 rank requires at least five years of professional experience. Appointment to the Librarian 4 rank requires at least eight years of professional experience and demonstrated professional accomplishments appropriate to the rank. Appointment to the Librarian 5 rank requires at least twelve years of professional experience and demonstrated professional accomplishments appropriate to the rank.

Appointment to the rank of Librarian 1 is limited to two years, and appointment to the rank of Librarian 2 is limited to three years, at which time it is expected that the individual will develop necessary requirements to meet expectations of performance at next level.
