Most libraries are "food free" zones; that is, food cannot be consumed in the library. However, many libraries have nearby designated areas where food is allowed.

Non-alcoholic beverages in approved containers are allowed in most libraries and collections. The exceptions are: Beinecke Rare Book Library, Lewis Walpole Library, Manuscripts & Archives in Sterling Memorial Library and Arts of the Book in Sterling Memorial Library. Other areas in libraries may prohibit beverages and this will be indicated by signs.
