and languages, and biographies arranged by category), and indices
for names and subjects.

Organizes topical articles into sections
by humanity, culture, and social life. Contains 38 articles written
by anthropologists. Intended to be read, not consulted for ready reference.
Each article contains a bibliography. It serves as a good overall
view of general subjects of anthropology. Indexed.

Contains information on prehistoric cultures,
sites, and artifacts of North America. Most entries are short and
some include references to definitive works on the subject. Use relies
on the index to find all relevant entries. The index, however, is
poorly cross-referenced and not comprehensive. Not all entries are
indexed. Since it is the only source of its kind, become very familiar
with its organization and the limitations of its index to use it effectively.

The definitive guide to the subject and without parallel in its comprehensive
treatment. Each volumes devoted to a geographic area. Each entry has

linguistic affiliation, economy, kinship, marriage and family, political
organization, and religion. Each volume includes an ethnic names index,
bibliographies, filmographies, maps, and a list of cultures. The final
volume includes the indices, bibliographies, and lists.
