Using British Libraries
First off, make the most of these collections. Most of the major museums in London have research libraries, all with their own rich collections and access policies.

Arlis.net Periodicals Database: The periodicals database is linked to a related directory of the art, architecture and design resources available in some 250 libraries, archives and other collections throughout the UK and Ireland. The directory provides a range of useful information, including postal addresses, web site addresses, opening hours and other details about access. It also indicates the subject areas covered by each organisation.

Royal Institute of British Architecture: *Use Before July 28th!!! Due to summer building projects, this library will be closed for 7 weeks and the last open day is July 28th, Saturday. Save yourself some time at the library by searching the online catalogue first, from home, the pub, Tesco's... What is really handy about this catalogue is that you can search by specific building name or architect and retrieve books, articles, archival materials, etc. Note that the architectural drawings collection is in the V&A.

British Library: A great London souvenir is your BL library card - go get one! If you can't find what you need at the Mellon Centre or RIBA, you can check the BL holdings online. When searching the BL Intergrated Catalogue, pay close attention to an item's record; there are multiple BL locations. However, the Humanities Collection is on Euston Road and you may want to start there. Click here for the BL's Architectural History resources page.

Royal Academy of Arts Research Library & Archive: This research library's focus is on British art and artists with particular focus on those who attended the RA. The Library essentially asks that researchers use it as a last resort, have an idea of what it is they want to study, and make an appointment. Read the information services page before planning your trip.
