The Faber Birren Collection of Books on Color is a non-circulating research collection. Access is limited because of the
rare and often delicate nature of the materials, but onsite items may be paged through the circulation desk of the
Arts of the Book Collection / Arts Library Special Collections Reading Room in Sterling Memorial Library (hours). On site items (indicated by a temporary location of Arts of the Book Collection) must be requested one day in advance. Items at the LSF (indicated by request for use at Arts of the Book) must be requested at least 2 days in advance. Requests can be made in person or through the Arts Library Special Collections Request Form. A picture ID must be left on deposit while the item from
the Birren Collection is in use.
To browse the collection researchers may use the online database which contains a complete record of all holdings,
as well as any available images. Reference queries should be directed to
art.library@yale.edu. Researchers requiring
in-depth assistance are encouraged to make an appointment with
Jae Jennifer Rossman, Special Collections Librarian, Arts Library. Research appointments must be scheduled in advance and
will be at the discretion of the librarian according to her availability. Hour-long research appointments will be available
between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm on Monday through Friday. Researchers traveling from a distance may request
additional consideration. To schedule a class visit, contact Jae Rossman well in advance to
discuss your needs.
