History of Art Graduate Workshops
Arts & Humanities Database Refresher
Wednesday, October 24th, 4:30 PM
Friday, October 26th, 2:30 PM
This workshop is designed to reacquaint students with useful search strategies and database interfaces that have changed over the last year. Enhancements have been made to just about every arts and humanities related database including Orbis and this class will ensure all attendees are familiarized with these enhancements. In addition, brand new features will also be covered including ARTstor searches in JSTOR, new indexes in Lexis Nexis, and the enhanced Worldcat union catalog collection. We will also spend some time with Google Scholar and Microsoft's Live Search Academic. Please reply to Hannah Bennett if you would like to attend one of these sessions.
Digital Image Collections and Presentation Tools
Monday, October 29th, 4:30 PM
Friday, November 2nd, 2:30 pm
Over the last few years, several changes and improvements have been made to the Yale VRC Digital Library collection, the Insight Collections, and ARTstor. This workshop is designed to help students use these databases for research purposes but also to show them how various tools, ranging from Powerpoint and the Insight client to ARTstor and the Offline Image Viewer, can be used to assemble, quickly, digital presentations. In particular, the Insight Client will create a Powerpoint presentation for you and ARTstor can now assemble a slide show using images from the VRC collection, the Image Gallery, and QTVR (quick time virtual reality) images. Please reply to Hannah Bennett if you would like to attend one of these sessions.
