As the working library for the arts at Yale, the fundamental mission of the Arts Library is
- To provide the principal collections, public services, and resource management that drive research, teaching, learning, and practice across the range of arts studies-including architecture, drama, book arts, the history of art, studio art, pertinent areas of classical studies-and support for the art museums.
- To act as the physical and intellectual library center for arts-related goals, interests, and curiosities, by offering library-based subject expertise through focused communication, management, mediation, and pedagogy.
- To provide particular expertise in the management of image-intensive library collections, print and digital, and in library services for image-related study, teaching, and practice.
Our main clientele is the arts community of Yale University. We embrace as well a responsibility to a broader community of scholars, researchers, students, and other readers within and outside Yale, present and future.
