The Bass intensive-use collection is a high-use, browsing collection of approximately 150,000 items in support of most disciplines taught in Yale College. The collection contains:
- Reserve material (We retain these items for 2 years after their last semester on reserve.);
- Works identified by subject specialist librarians or our approval plan as potentially high-use;
- Definitive or standard works of a discipline or literature related to the Yale College curriculum, past and present;
- Works offering a broad and sometimes popular presentation of a discipline;
- Works by an author who is a current faculty member of Yale College; and
- Heavily used works as verified by the Library's Collection Analysis Tool or Voyager circulation module.
The collection will be weeded on a regular basis in order to keep it around 150,000 items. In most cases, titles will be removed because they are infrequently used with the exception of the authorized editions of writings by significant authors. These works, mostly in English, will be kept in the intensive-use collection as a body of reference material for faculty and students.
If you have any comments about the Bass intensive-use collection or would like to suggest the addition of specific works, please contact Alan Solomon at alan.solomon@yale.edu.
