As part of its effort to nurture instruction and enrich the
Yale curriculum, the Beinecke Library makes its seminar rooms available to
faculty members interested in holding classes in which they exhibit Beinecke
materials. To assure that the Library's collections will be available for
future generations of students and scholars, we ask faculty to observe the
following guidelines.
The Library's four seminar rooms are available for use from
8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Reservations
can be made in person at the Beinecke Public Services desk, by phoning 432-2972,
or by emailing the Beinecke Public Services Department (beinecke.library@yale.edu). To insure that Library materials are available
on the day of the class, please submit an application to the Public Services
desk for approval at least three to five days prior to the date of the class
along with a list of the materials to be used, their call numbers, and call
slips. The use of some materials may
require approval by the appropriate curator or the Public Services Librarian. The Library will inform the class instructors
of any special problems associated with the use of particular materials.
Please note that it is the responsibility of the instructor
to insure that all materials are handled properly in the classroom.
GUIDELINES FOR USE OF BEINECKE SEMINAR
ROOMS
Instructors may reserve a seminar room in the Beinecke Library
for a single meeting of a Yale course or for the entire course provided that:
- The request for the seminar room
is based on the need for Beinecke materials.
- Both students and class instructors
honor the Rules Governing the Use of Beinecke Materials. Responsibility for
enforcing these rules rests with the instructor.
- The class size does not exceed
12 students for Rooms 15 and 28 or 20 students in Rooms 38 and 39. For classes larger than 20 students, Rooms
38 and 39 must be available and booked at the same time. When Rooms 38 and 39 are booked together the
capacity is 70.
- The amount of material requested
for a class session is no more than 15 items.
- Only the instructor handles Beinecke
material; materials may not be passed from hand to hand.
Please Note: If a book is difficult to keep open, the Library recommends
that the instructor use display stands and holders to display
it rather than to attempt to keep it open on the table.
In the case of extremely valuable or fragile items, it may
be necessary for a staff member to bring the materials to the classroom and
remove them as soon as the instructor has finished using them.
Requests for use of the seminar rooms for purpose other than
Yale classroom instruction should be directed to the Office of the Director.
