An Invitation to Join the Yale Library AssociatesFounded in 1930 by an eminent group of bibliophiles, the Yale Library Associates provide an active forum for the enhancement of book and manuscript collecting at Yale. Perhaps the oldest friends-of-the-library group in the country, the Associates are dedicated to the support of the University Library, through their interest in the Library's activities and their participation in its acquisition program. Members are invited to lectures, exhibitions, openings, receptions, and symposia held throughout the year at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library affording members an opportunity to learn about diverse aspects of the Library and to share their own interests with others. Each Associate receives the semi-annual Yale University Library Gazette, which publishes scholarly articles about Yale Collections, news from the Library, and annotated lists of recent acquisitions. Members often receive special Library publications as well. The annual dues are $50 for individuals or couples, $100 for patrons, and $25 for students. A Gazette subscription is $20 per annum without membership benefits. In 1985, the Associates established an Endowment Fund to provide members with the option of contributing collectively to capital, thereby providing a self-renewing source of income for the Yale libraries. (Contributions to the Yale Library Associates Endowment Fund are in addition to annual dues.)
