Trionfi

The Grand Tour
Charles Burney and the Musical Landscape of Eighteenth-Century Europe
An investigation into the rich and varied musical life of critic and
historian Charles Burney (1726-1814), based on his correspondence in the
James Marshall and Marie-Louise Osborn Collection at the Beinecke Library.
This concert features English music from the eighteenth century as well as
works that Burney heard on his Continental tours.

Molière and his Musicians
Many of Molière's comedies were not just acted: they were also
sung and danced. Here we present some of the most entertaining intermèdes from Molière's collaborations with two of the greatest
musicians of the seventeenth century, Jean-Baptiste Lully and
Marc-Antoine Charpentier. Our concert draws upon the extraordinary
Pforzheimer collection of Molière at the Beinecke Library.

"A Portrait of Daniel Read"

A lecture with musical examples in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Daniel Read
(1757-1836). Read was a composer, tunebook compiler, singing master, combmaker (!), and merchant,
who lived and worked in New Haven for most of his adult life. Musicologist Karl Kroeger, who prepared
the scholarly edition of Daniel Read's Collected Works for A-R Editions, will speak about Read's life
and work. His talk will be illustrated by selections of Read's music, performed by singers from the
Yale Camarata, directed by Marguerite Brooks. The lecture is complemented by the exhibition "Daniel
Read and the Flowering of Sacred Music in New Haven," on view at the Beinecke Library through December 22, 2007.
This event is co-sponsored by the Irving S. Gilmore Music Library and the Beinecke Library.

Beatrice’s Big Wedding: Music from the Mellon Chansonnier
A celebration of one of the Beinecke Library’s most splendid musical manuscripts, in this centenary year
of Paul Mellon's birth. The Mellon Chansonnier was assembled in the 1470s to celebrate the Neapolitan
wedding of Beatrice of Aragon and Matthias Corvinus of Hungary. Masterworks of Dufay, Busnois, and
their contemporaries will come to life with the vivid sounds of shawms, sackbuts, harps, and vielles.

A Futurist evening.
