Subject: [Yulibl] YBP Shelf-ready Pilot Project
Dear Colleagues --
We wish to announce the implementation of a pilot project for receiving shelf-ready books from Yankee Book Peddler for our CCL collection. This project was initiated with YBP to test the efficiency and effectiveness of using an approval plan for CCL collection development. This small pilot (approximately 1500 titles per year) will also allow us to evaluate the feasibility of moving forward with receiving shelf-ready materials from more suppliers in the future.
We received our first shipment the last week in July and it has been moved to Access Services for shelving. We will continue to receive YBP shelf-ready materials each week throughout the next fiscal year. The shelf-ready process allows us to receive materials for both our approval plan and via firm ordering through the vendor's online database. We receive the books from YBP already processed with spine labels, book pockets, targets, bookplates, our Yale stamp, and our barcodes attached according to our specifications. In addition, we receive a MARC file with our data included so that we can create a purchase order, load bibliographic records, create holdings records with LC call numbers, and add complete item records with our barcode all through one bulk load. Once we get the materials, we simply need to receive them via the purchase order and send them on to Access Services for shelving.
To work with the vendor's limitations and to make the total process as expeditious as possible, we have had to accept a few changes in our normal processing and routines. In order to keep our Yale community informed, we have attached a document listing these changes.
Please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
