Background. Item to be cataloged is a remote e-book. The decision to catalog as a variant edition is based on the following checklist:

1. Research Services has requested Orbis access to the online version, and the monograph is in the category of e-resources that the unit is authorized to catalog.
2. Source copy is available for the print version.
3. No cataloging available in OCLC for the remote e-monograph.

Since there is no in-process record for the e-book, and there is a record for the print version in Orbis, the Voyager Copy command can be used to clone the print record, save it with a new Orbis ID #, and edit the new record to match the remote e-book.

There is no indication that the online version is an integrating resource. When in doubt, consult with a catalog librarian.

Examination of the online version indicates that it does not fall into the reproduction category. A "reproduction" would be, for example, a PDF version of the print serial that replicated the pagination of the original. The resource being described has been reformatted to take advantage of the web environment, with a running index on the sidebar and hotlinks to other sources; the original pagination has not been reproduced.

Always verify that the subjects are current.

Always verify that the names used in the added entries (and main entry) in the record for the print version actually appear on the web page. If they don't, you probably need to justify them with a note.

2. The 245 at the top of the web page may not exactly reproduce the arrangement of the original, but the text is the same and when in doubt it is better to keep the arrangement of the original for the benefit of anyone searching in the catalog.

260 Publication information taken from the copyright band at the bottom of the page. Since this title is one of a number of titles linked to a collection site, a case could be made for including the other co-publishers named on the collection site page in the publication area. However, there appears to be no reverse link from the individual title to the collection site page although there is a link from the collection site to the individual title.

504 Revised to account for lack of pagination in the web version.

New Fields Added to the Record

440 Title for the collection site. Because of the lack of reverse linkage from the individual title's web page to the collection site web page, there is no explicit series statement on the Findebuch web page. Although a SAR is justified, perhaps the collection title should be bracketed or recorded in a note. The SAR will account for the co-publishers not recorded in the Findebuch 260 field.
