MARS Implementation : Results of QA of CJK Recon Records

Conducted November 2001 by Polly Chang, Calvin Hsu, Xinkai Kong, and Dajin Sun.  Each person searched all of the headings on 50 bib records.

Please note: diacritics are not represented correctly in the examples provided!

1. Problems with MARS processing

110 should be 130 as "Xue xi (Chu ji ban)" is a uniform title, but no authority record exists that could provide a match.

Original Wade-Giles heading probably had "Shi-kuei" which was changed during Pinyin conversion to "Shigui".
Original Wade-Giles heading should have had "Shi-k'uei" which would have been converted to "Shikui". However, even though "Shikui" is in a cross-reference, it is unlikely that MARS could have corrected the heading to the established form because the bib record heading has no dates.
