1. MARS Update
We are fully caught up with MARS processing of current cataloging; record loads are also caught up. We are fully caught up with MARS processing of the backfile of bib records that accumulated during the migration to Voyager; record loads should be completed within the coming week. We are finished with MARS processing and record loading of the Serials Solutions e-journal records. The CJK and vernacular record processing remains to be done.
Earlier in the year, MARS sent us replacement CJK recon records intended to rectify a problem with 6XX fields that contain $6 getting inadvertently deleted. Looking at these replacement records in test Orbis, it seems that the 6XX $6 problem has been fixed but a new problem affecting series fields has been introduced. We will not load the replacement records until the problem has been investigated further.
2. ExportQ Update
The committee recently finished testing a new version of the ExportQ program. In version 2.2.1, a pop-up dialog box is generated whenever a cataloger brings up a bib record that is out for MARS processing (in addition to the usual red "do not edit" message that displays in the ExportQ window). To get the dialog box to close, you must acknowledge the warning by clicking the "okay" button. Committee members found the pop-up feature to be a great improvement. Manon sent a summary of the testing results to programmer Roy Lechich in the Systems Office. Roy is continuing to work on the program and hopes to have the new improved version released for general use soon. Most committee members reported that they still get the occasional run-time error message.
3. Authority Control Workflow for C&T Staff
Developing the monthly authority control tips and and the series workshop (below) has led to some suggested revisions in the Authority Control Workflow for C&T Staff document. The committee will discuss these revisions at a future meeting and then bring the revised document to the Cataloging Coordinating Council for approval.
4. Series Workshop
Ellen, Christina, and Jerry Anne presented a first draft of the series authorities workshop they have been charged with putting together. Committee members provided feedback At our next meeting, we will do a dry run. The workshop will be an hour in length. Rather than a big Lecture Hall presentation, it will probably be conducted in SML 409 for smaller groups of 12-15.
