Absent: Sarah Elman, Mickey Koth.
1. Charge
The Cataloging Coordinating Council approved the committee's charge, with the addition of a bullet assigning the committee responsibility for drafting official Yale responses to LC/PCC rule proposals that relate to the construction of headings in bibliographic records and the creation of NACO authority records. These draft responses would be circulated to other cataloging staff for comment before being submitted to to LC/PCC.
2. Meetings
The committee's regular meeting time has been set at the 2nd Monday of each month from 10-11am in SML 410.
3. Communication with the Library of Congress
The Library of Congress has indicated a preference for having a single person funnel all Yale NACO questions and BFM messages to them rather than allowing all Yale NACO reviewers to communicate with LC directly. As NACO coordinator, Manon will take on this role. During periods of extended vacation or sick leave, she will designate one of the reviewers to serve in her place. If a reviewer has a question about a record, she or he should send the question to the entire NACO Coordinating Committee. If the question cannot be resolved internally, Manon will then forward it to LC.
4. Yale NACO History
Maria and Fanny are writing a brief history of Yale's NACO participation. They should have a draft ready in mid-September.
5. NACO annual statistics
Manon distributed a summary Yale's NACO statistics for fiscal year 2002-2003. The summary will be included in the annual report prepared by Joan Swanekamp.
6. NACO E-mail List
A NACO e-mail distribution list will be set up for NACO catalogers. This will prevent cluttering the YULCAT-L list with reminders and instructions intended solely for NACO catalogers. A large number of staff on the YULCAT-L list are not NACO participants and might either resent receiving NACO-specific messages or get confused by them.
7. RLIN save file statistics:
Reviewers should continue to work with NACO catalogers to reduce the number of records in the RLIN save file. A reminder will be sent out once the NACO e-mail distribution list is set up. It is possible that some of the records are in the save file accidentally as a result of an RLIN system bug. This has happened in the past.

8. Policies for individual cataloger independence
Manon will send a message to the PCC electronic discussion list asking other libraries what their local institutional policies are for granting individual catalogers independence. Then, at a later meeting, the group will discuss the topic at greater length.
9. Series policy document
The committee discussed the series policy document <http://www.library.yale.edu/cataloging/authorities/series_policy.htm> at length and identified needed additions and changes, including the replacement of NOTIS-specific text with Voyager-specific text. Manon will circulate a draft revision.
