1. RLIN Save Files
The reviewers did a quick round robin on the size of the various Yale save files in RLIN and the age of the records therein. Only a handful of records are older than 60 days. Reviewers were encouraged to work with their reviewees to make sure that the older records get produced.
2. New Meeting Time/Place
A new monthly meeting time/place was announced: 1st Monday of each month, 11am-12:30pm, SML 411.
Also an additional meeting has been scheduled for Monday, Oct. 18 (same time/place) to discuss RLIN21. The meeting may be cancelled if RLG postpones issuing the NACO-enabled client. The current timeline on the RLG website says:
--October: Test versions of the RLIN21 client released for RLIN NACO contributors and for RLIN SCIPIO contributors.
--October 15: Deadline for institutions to provide user IDs and related information to ensure their immediate access to databases post-migration.
--Anticipated October 31 (not sooner): End date for all record input using RLIN Terminal for Windows. The actual date will be announced 30 days in advance.
Because no announcement of an end-date came on Oct. 1, we can probably assume that RLIN21 implementation will be postponed.
3. NACO Series Training
NACO Series training has been scheduled for this month. It will consist of a total of six 3-hour sessions. The NACO Series training manual that will be used for the training has been revised since the May 2003 edition last distributed to Yale NACO catalogers. Manon will look into making copies and distributing the revised manual.
4. MARS
OCLC is currently re-evaluating MARS and there is a possibility that the service will be sold to another company. If this happens, our options will be to:
1) continue to use MARS under the new company
2) switch to a different authorities service; or
3) start doing all authority control work in-house
The first two options would require significant testing before implementation. Manon is currently working on a document that would provide a model for the third option. She will forward a first draft to committee members so they can help evaluate the effect this model would have on NACO work.
5. NACO Independence Guidelines
The committee discussed a first draft of new Yale policies for granting individual catalogers independence for NACO work. Additions and changes to the document were suggested. Manon will revise the draft as needed and the committee will discuss the next draft at a later meeting. The document will eventually replace two older documents:
