NACO Coordinating Committee Minutes

Present: Maria Hunenko, Mickey Koth, Cécile Mandour, Rick Sarcia, Manon Théroux (chair and recorder)

Absent: Steven Arakawa, Sarah Elman, Fanny Hsieh.

1. Next Meeting Date

Our next meeting date is scheduled for Nov. 1 but Manon has rescheduled it to Nov 15 (same time and place) because of conflicts with NACO Series training taking place that day.

2. NACO Series Training Manuals

Joan has tentatively approved distribution of the new NACO Series training manual to all NACO catalogers for use as a reference tool. Manon will ask Randy to get an estimate from RIS on printing costs. Catalogers would be asked to re-use their old binders.

3. Updated RLIN21 Timeline

The RLIN21 timeline was updated last week and implementation has been delayed yet again. The timeline now reads:

--November: (rev. Oct. 13) A test version of the RLIN21 client for RLIN NACO contributors will be released.

--Anticipated during November: (rev. Oct. 13) End date for all record input using RLIN Terminal for Windows. The actual date will be announced 30 days in advance.

4. "RLIN21 for NACO Work" Training

The training will be divides into three parts:

--1. Searching the RLIN21 authority files
--2. Searching the RLIN21 bib file
--3. NACO inputting

Manon has completed a first draft of the points to be covered in parts 1 and 2.
Part 2 will have some overlap with the RLIN21 training being done by Shaundolyn Slaughter and Steven Arakawa but the focus will not be on searching for copy cataloging purposes; it will be on the searching needed for establishing NACO headings.

Manon asked for a volunteer to do the NACO inputting part of the training. Mickey volunteered, though she will have to wait for the NACO-enabled client to be released before she can begin preparing that part of the training.

The remainder of the meeting was spent discussing the draft of the searching document and doing sample searches in RLIN21. Corrections and additions to the draft were suggested. Committee members will practice searching in the new RLIN21 environment to see if other points need to be covered in the training.
