1. PCC Proposal on Series Coding
The committee discussed the PCC proposal to allow BIBCO catalogers the option of always recording traced series in 490/8xx pairs (i.e., not using the 440 field when appropriate): http://www.loc.gov/acq/conser/SeriesProposal.pdf
The group did not object to this being an option but thought Yale should not exercise the option. Manon will write a response and send it to the appropriate PCC contacts. Manon will also poll the members of the Authority Control Advisory Committee.

2. PCC Proposal on Normalization
The committee discussed the PCC proposal to have a single set of normalization rules for both name authority records and subject authority records: http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/sca/PCCNormalDraft.pdf
The group preferred to keep the current approach of having separate normalization rules. If the rules were combined, Option A was seen as preferable to Option B. Manon will write a response and send it to the appropriate PCC contacts.

3. OCLC NACO Authorizations
Manon distributed the new NACO authorizations to committee members. They are for use only by a select few at this point (committee members and others who are testing the system). Once catalogers have had OCLC NACO training in October, they will receive their authorizations and can begin creating authority records in OCLC.
4. OCLC NACO Training
The OCLC NACO training by Margaret Lourie (NELINET) will take place in October [after the meeting, the date was set for October 19th]. The training will be three hours long (with a break in the middle) and will take place in SCML; there will be one session in the morning and a repeat session in the afternoon. Unfortunately, the SCML does not have enough terminals for everyone, so we will have to ask some catalogers to share terminals, sit in the back of the room, or wait for locally-conducted training (we can use the same NELINET training manual during this subsequent training). Past NACO statistics will help us determine who would benefit the most from the NELINET sessions (i.e., less-prolific catalogers might be asked to wait for local training to be conducted a week or two after the NELINET training). Some committee members will be asked to serve as "floating helpers" during the training.
The committee discussed the most recent version of the draft outline of what should be covered in the training.
The group also discussed notes that Manon distributed from her site visit to Columbia on Aug.22. The notes are here: http://www.library.yale.edu/cataloging/authorities/minutes/OCLCNACOColumbia.doc
