NACO Coordinating Committee Minutes

Date: 12 September 2007

Present: Steven Arakawa, Ellen Ellickson, Sarah Elman, Maria Hunenko, Mickey Koth, Stephen Young, Rick Sarcia (chair and recorder).

Absent:Cécile Mandour.

1. Authority Control at Yale web pages

All pages on the site related to RLIN21 will be deleted. Rick is working to update the other pages on the site with new contact information and to repair dead links when discovered. Committee members will report any other necessary updates as they come across them.

2. RLIN save file / NACO independence

All remaining Yale records that were in the RLIN save file -- a few from the Hebraica and Near East Teams -- were produced or deleted at the end of August (that file was closed by OCLC on Aug. 31). As a result of producing those records, Abdul Hannawi of the Near East Team was granted independence for series headings. Rick will also check with Daniel Lovins to see if Hebraica is using the Review file option in OCLC when sending records to his funnel. In other RLIN related information, it was also announced today that the RLG web site will be going offline as of Oct. 1.

3. OCLC Authorities training manual

The group will begin reviewing the OCLC Authorities training manual to see what updates might need to be made since the upgrade to Connexion 2.0. Many of them are related to changes in the location of commands in the toolbar and menus. Some of the screenshots used in the manual may also have to be updated to reflect changes in the appearance of the new interface. Some footnoted information on the use of institution records may also be added.

4. Policies for creating SARs

There was a brief discussion about the possibility of modifying our policy for creating SARs for headings from older material. Steven suggested using a 1981 cut-off date, since current policy is to exclude the DPCC code in the tracing field on SARs created for series or MPMs published prior to 1981. Rick will check with Joan.

5. CJK NACO funnel

Sarah announced that LC has established a CJK NACO funnel, and she will be participating in the program as a reviewer for Chinese headings.
