RE: ADDED COPIES TO GEAC RECORDS
DATE: OCT. 23, 1991
We've encountered a few instances where additional copy statements have been
activated on existing GEAC circulation records. As long as the copy is for
the same location and no shelf cards are required, this poses no problem;
however, whenever the copy is for another location and/or shelf cards need
to be produced it is not possible to do so. The encoding level 9 in the fixed
field causes the card printing program to print only call number and location
information and identifies the record as an error. No bibliographic information
is generated on the shelf card. Thus whenever an added copy is to be processed
for an added location or if a shelf card request is to be made and the Orbis
record is a GEAC record, the bibliographic record must be upgraded to a full
record.
